In the photographic work 24 h Observation / CiGi-Bu(2022), I accompany the family of a primate researcher, employing a standardized method of 24-hour observation that is typically used in the long-term study of great apes in the Central African rainforest. Equipped with a research question, personal belongings, provisions, and observational tools, this observation takes place within the researcher’s private environment. The observation is conducted through minute-by-minute field notes, as well as through photographic and drawn documentation of behavior. Automated camera traps, in turn, attest to an attempted maintenance of distance from the object of study during the observational process.
